WHAT TO DO CLOSE BY

There is a lot to do without spending hours in the car. Places and activities within 20 minutes drive are given below, but this is by no means all.

Please check current opening times with each place.

  • "Capture" Fatlips Castle near Denholm - a short drive from the campsite to the bottom of the hill then approx half an hour walk to the top of the crags and the castle. Great views from the top!
  • Wilton Lodge Park, Hawick - Fort-like play park, summer music in the bandstand, tennis courts, café, museum, waterfall & gardens, walks and paddling in the river on sunny days.
  • Harestanes Visitor Centre, Ancrum - lots of activities for the younger lot and lovely woodland walks.
  • Jedburgh Jail museum - lock ‘em up! – great for kids.
  • Mary Queen of Scots House - Jedburgh (museum).
  • Visit The Borders Distillery in Hawick,  opened in 2018.
  • Rulewater Alpacas - Our cutest neighbours!! Why not experience the beautiful Rulewater Valley in a very unique way, walking in the woods with Alpacas! Visit Rulewater Alpacas for more information.
  • Golf Courses at Minto, Jedburgh and Hawick.

We're so lucky to have great places to shop, eat and drink on our doorstep in beautiful Denholm village, which is within walking distance of the campsite (30-40 minutes), see our Maps page for directions.

The Cream Puff coffee shop serves great coffee, cakes and light lunches.

The Auld Cross Keys and The Fox and Hounds are the two pubs in the village. The Cross Keys has a large family-friendly dining area, beer garden, lounge and separate bar. The Fox and Hounds has a lovely cosy bar and a courtyard-style beer garden.

Denholm Meet Cafe Restaurant serves Italian and Scottish food, open for lunches daily and evening meals at weekends.

Situated above the Denholm Meet you can find Denholm Antiques and Interiors who offer a wonderful range of old and new items.

We'd be lost without the amazing Denholm Village Shop - post office, groceries & gifts! We also have a butcher in the village - Denholm Meat Supplies.

And Oliver's Garage is a family-run garage just off the village green. This is where you can get the key to Fatlips Castle (weekdays until 5:30pm and Saturdays until 1pm). Petrol also available.

If you'd like to find our more about the village of Denholm there's a really good website: Denholm Village.

There's a great app called Scotland Starts Here which will give you masses more ideas and detailon things to do in the area!

Common Riding Festivals - Each year the towns in the Borders have a "Common Riding" which takes place over a couple of weeks. Hawick's is usually early June and Jedburgh's early July.
